Branded with the letter “A” on her chest, abortionist Hester Smith works tirelessly to buy her son’s freedom from prison. Violence and greed surge around her, and Hester must make unimaginable sacrifices. An epic blend of song and story, Suzan-Lori Parks’s radical take on The Scarlet Letter is a forceful protest against the suffering of innocent people caught in the grip of the corrupt and powerful.
